Uglycon 2016

It’s been a while since my last post, but wanted to share my two pieces that are currently on display at at Giant Robot 2 Gallery for Uglycon 2016, featuring artwork inspired by Uglydolls.

“Uglies in Space” features a “wind chime” like feature with the three figures “floating” in their space shuttle (while actually hanging from string with stars below). There is also a rotating Space Babo. It is laser cut and etched out of wood on a wood canvas, then stained. Measures approximately 17″x 24″.

“Bubble Babo” is a hand (and small tools) sculpted wooden toy figure with five points of articulation – the head, arms and wrists rotate. He is inspired by the Uglydoll Babo character and the video game Bubble Bobble. He features laser etching and measures approximately 6″x 8″x 4″.

Uglycon 2016 will be on display at Giant Robot 2 Gallery in West Los Angeles from July 9 – 27th if you want to check it out. Additionally, all available artwork is for sale on the Giant Robot website. While “Uglies in Space” has been purchased, “Bubble Babo” is still available at this time. Here are some more photos of the other artwork:

Uglycon 2014

uglycon2014

Uglycon 2014 is happening this Saturday, June 21 at Giant Robot 2 in West Los Angeles. Once again, my wife and I are partaking in the event and submitted our “Sew Ice-Bats” for the show. It’s a  fun day of prizes, games, and activities, all based around Uglydolls. Since I still had leftover material from last year’s Sew Babo figure, I decided to create Ice-Bat in the same style.

Since “Uglycon is Coming”, I also put together a quick fun teaser for the event, which is a mash up of Uglydoll Ice-Bat and  Game of Thrones:

Uglycon is Coming

If you can make it out, look for me, as my Ice-Bat wants to share his Ice Bat Pops with everyone. Just find me on Saturday and say “I’m Batty for Ice Pops!”, for a free wooden Ice Bat Pop Pin (while they last). Hope to see everyone there! =)

Fresh To Death Art Show Recap

The “Fresh To Death” Art Show and Charity Auction opened last Saturday night down in San Diego at Rosewood, a sneaker/skate store and art gallery. I was lucky enough to display the three toy art figures that I created for the show alongside my good friend (and one of the hosts of the show) Gary Lockwood (aka Freehand Profit) and his finance, Betsy Van Deusen. The other artists included in the show were @marsartist, @romtheworld. and @cristobarart, and it was co-hosted by Sneaker Head Confessions. The turnout was great, with different folks coming through all night and was definitely a fun time. Coincidentally, my pieces, entitled “2 Feet Under” (differentiated by “brand” editions), complemented perfectly with Betsy’s amazing oil and watercolor paintings. In addition a toy drive was also held and those, plus the proceeds from the auction will go to the Boys and Girls Club of San Diego. Keep an eye out for the auction, since unfortunately, there are a few issues at hand. Check out the following statement from Gary:

12/16/2013: IMPORTANT UPDATE: Due to eBay’s required shipping & handling turnaround the auctions must be held closer to the end of the show. This will also give time for the Boys and Girls Club of Greater San Diego to register with eBay’s Giving Works so that 100% of the proceeds goes directly to the charity. Thanks for your patience and understanding as we reconfigure the charity art auction.

Thanks to everyone that made it out the opening night. If you are in San Diego, the show runs through January, so be sure to stop by and check out all the art in person.

Post Humanity Art Show

If you are in the Los Angeles area, please come check out the “Post Humanity” art show at spaceLUNA, opening tomorrow night June 1st at 7pm. Myself and a bunch of other talented artist are showing new work:

Imagine a place that holds you like a blanket, providing warmth on cold nights and housing light within darkness and solitude. In a world of chaos, imagine a place with less conflict and more appreciation for the surroundings we inhabit.  On June 1, 2012, 7:00PM, spaceLUNA Art Gallery opens a group exhibition to reveal the differences that are our similarities.  By understanding human endurance, resilience and creativity awakens the spirit.  What happens when benevolence ends, but the passion and drive for survival linger in the human mind?

“Post Humanity” presents a moment to embrace rebirth.  The exhibit showcases the new works of emerging artists throughout the Los Angeles County.  Embracing the diverse creative outlets that bind artists together, the many art forms (3D, culinary, graphic design, fashion design, illustration, painting, photography, sculpture, street art, visual and mixed media) will allow and encourage the viewer to discover the irony that occurs in daily life and the commonalities we in fact hold. By utilizing the elements and themes of water, wood, and metal, artists incorporate their medium to acknowledge the physical, cultural, and political environments.
